Conserve Your Energy

As we enter the summer heat, it is tempting to crank up the air conditioner to escape the heat, but your electric bill will be higher if you do.

Here are some ways to be energy-conscious and save money this summer.

·         Set the temperature on your refrigerator for only as cold as you need it, check the manufacturer's recommendations.

·         Don’t overfill your refrigerator as this impedes circulation and makes the system work harder.

·         Take shorter showers and keep them as cool as possible, your water heater uses a large amount of electricity.

·         Wash full loads of laundry at a time. This also applies to your dishwasher. Full loads mean less hot water used in the long run. That also means less wasted electricity!

·         If you have a home computer, unplug its screen when not in use. This uses 60% of the computer's power.

·         Unplug infrequently used electrical items. These items like a toaster, or a TV in the spare room, use electricity even when not in use.

There are so many ways to conserve energy. Southeastern Indiana REMC offers several “load management” options to help conserve energy during crucial times to ease the burden on the electric grid, keep power costs down, and keep your electric rates stable.
